The climb can finally begin - all the nervous tension can now be released as they head off and get their first glimpse of Mt Aconcagua. A Jeep will take them to the park rangers station to sign in. From here the path heads up past the pretty Horcones Lagoon. It then crosses the Horcones river with spectacular views through the valley. A gentle slope leads them upwards to Confluencia camp . This should all take them about 4 hrs.

Ray was feeling strong after a great sleep but woke with a headache possibly due to the altitude adjustment. He said the team is chatty and upbeat with lots of talks about various mountain adventures. Good news is as well that Alex has a satellite phone with him so hopefully we get to hear some news on how their day went and news on the weather further up the mountain.
Ray has set himself the target of raising R22 840.00 for The Sunflower Fund - R100 for every 100ft climbed. The Sunflower Fund recruits potential blood stem cell donors and raises funds to pay the R2500.00 tissue-typing test cost per donor required in the recruitment process.
To support Ray in his mission, visit his cause page on Given Gain to make a donation.
