What's Next - Mt Elbrus, Russia - June 2012

In June 2012, Ray and Jay are planning to climb Mt Elbrus in Russia, the highest peak in Europe. This is also an all ice and snow climb but is not too technical. We will definitely be taking a Satellite phone with so that we can send daily updates from the mountain. Lynne will again provide a vital role in publishing up to the minute information about the climb and our progress on the blog. We are still busying planning the trip but the idea is to leave on the 24th June to coincide with the start of the school holiday so that Jayson doesn't miss any school. June is not the ideal time to climb as it is still the end of winter and conditions can be difficult but we are going to take a chance.

Mount Elbrus, Russia
In the South-Eastern, corner of Europe, a range of mountains stretches between the Black and the Caspian Sea. Known as the Caucasus, they are topped by one of the world’s most beautiful volcanoes, Mount Elbrus. At 5642m, Elbrus is Europe’s highest mountain, but it is also one of the world’s "seven summits". A journey to Elbrus is not only a mountain adventure, it is a trip through time where the mysteriousness of Russian history can be experienced alongside the richness of its mountains and valleys.


There are actually twin peaks so let's hope that we climb the right one. The height difference is only about 16m but obviously we want to reach the highest summit. Several people have actually made the mistake of accidentally climbing the wrong one!!

    Lynne is an amazing person that she nursed me back to health over 3 years and now she is supporting me on my dream to climb the 7 Summits. Truly amazing woman!!! She is a talented writer and intends writing a book about my story which is actually just as much her story. I think the book will touch people and move them to tears of sorrow and happiness when they see the adversity that we had to endure for such a long time and then later the spiritual awakening and intense desire to inspire other people. Of course then there is all the adventures which must still play out over the next couple of years. Nobody knows the ending but I can guarantee that it will be life changing for those that witness it.
